Blog assignment 1

I think that in the next 1-5 years the use of landline phones will dwindle to almost nothing. Even today you can see that they are no longer as favored as they once were. For an example, since moving from childhood home five years ago I have only owned a landline phone for a single year before getting rid of it.
I also believe that the landline phone is on the way out because there are more ways to communicate today. IP telephony services such as Skype is such a way. Besides that there are mobile phones (unreliable in some places due to poor coverage).
In 6-50 years I think that humanity’s presence in space will increase. One of the reasons for this is that there are more and more commercial space projects being started. For an example of this one can see the growing space tourism.

  1. It was interesting to read your thought about the future. I agree with you about landline phones. I´m using mobile phone mostly and at home I use IP-phone. I will not get rid of my home phone because of my children, I think that it is easier to learn and remember home phone numbers than mobile phone numbers. I want my children to learn how to use phone in case of emergency.
I don´t want to go to space but I believe that are lots of people who do that. I do believe that it´s too expensive for ordinary people to go to space, maybe millionaires with an adventures mind.

  2. I agree with you that the landline phones are on the way out. If people move they may not bother to take their phone with them. In some ways I think this is a pitty, so much stuff that we are used to are being replaced or disappearing althougher. It's very easy to communicate by the internet but I feel that if your just gonna make a quick phonecall it's much easier to just pick up the phone then to start your computer, go online and then make the call..

  3. Interesting read, i totally agree with you. Landline phones is useless nowadays when you can have a cellphone with you all the time. I also hope that landline phones will cease to exist so more people will start using VoIP/IP-phones and thus making way for new technology to be developed in the area of VoIP.

    Cheers,

    Stefan

  4. I can agree with you to a certain point that landline phones will disappear or at least the use of them will be reduced. As you say, the use of mobile phones and IP telephony services are increasing and is now getting more used then the landline phone as we are most of the time connected to the Internet and the mobile phone is always close to us. I can tell that your example of only having the landline phone for one year after you moved away from home was the same for me. I had a landline phone for one year but then the need of it disappeared as I started to use the mobile phone more and more. But landline phones is at the moment cheaper to use than mobile phones and not everyone is connected to Internet around the clock and for what I know, not many companies are using Skype in order to provide customer service.

The presence in space is definitely going to increase as the technology is under constant development and soon we might be able to make longer trips and probably we can make more trips to the moon. I would not be surprised if the first trip to Mars with a crew will be done to.
